Zelenskyj gave an interview to the French “Le Monde”, which naturally also focused on the Europeans’ position on the Ukraine war. The President of Ukraine said the Russian invasion had rallied Europeans around Ukraine. Even if there are different opinions in all societies, 90 percent of Europe’s top politicians are on Kiev’s side. This support made it possible for Ukraine to stop Russia.

“But there are other sounds too. Hungary with Viktor Orbán always plays a very dangerous game. A dangerous game, especially for Hungary,” said Zelensky, who wondered why Budapest was formulating such radical messages to Ukraine, even though they themselves knew very well what an invasion and a fascist regime would entail. Orbán is not achieving anything by relying on Trump. For Ukraine, it is irrelevant who sits in the White House as long as American society does not change its attitude towards Ukraine, shared values and Putin.
Great risk of escalation
The reaction from Budapest was not long in coming. When asked about Zelensky’s statements at a press conference on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said: “The only thing that is dangerous is war in which people die and there is a high risk of escalation.” Hungary, as Ukraine’s immediate neighbor, certainly has no interest in that the conflict expands.
