After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, England is now ruled by Charles as king. But in the early days of becoming king, Charles was immediately hit by problems, especially from his family.

From the inside, Charles continues to be in the spotlight because Prince William and Harry do not get along. The two sons are even said to have a worsening relationship. There is also the royal relationship with Meghan Markle, Harry’s wife that is in the spotlight.

The late Elizabeth had a final request. He wanted to reunite the royal family. An inheritance that of course became a burden for Charles.

Not only the legacy of family problems, Charles was also terrorized by the issue of the British crisis. There are reports of children starving to the point of chewing gum.

Many of them choose to go to the playground during lunch time because they can’t afford to buy food. A school in Lewisham, south-east London, reported that a child pretended to eat from an empty lunchbox because he didn’t want his friends to know there was no food in his house.

In his first speech as king, Charles made several promises. Especially about the welfare of the people.

“I am well aware of this great legacy and duty, and the great responsibility of sovereignty now lies with me,” said Charles III.

“In fulfilling this responsibility, I will seek to follow an inspiring example in establishing constitutional government and achieving peace, harmony and the well-being of the people on these islands and in the United Kingdom’s territories around the world.”

The King is the head of state of the United Kingdom. But its power is only symbolic and remains politically neutral. The Prime Minister usually meets with the King every Wednesday at Buckingham Palace to get an explanation of issues in government.

This meeting was informal and there is no record of what was discussed. The king is also a member in a number of parliamentary functions.

1. Elevate government – the leader of the party that wins the election is usually summoned to Buckingham Palace and asked to formally form a government. The king also officially dissolved the government before the election.

2. Parliament opening ceremony with the King’s speech – The King will start the Parliament session with an official opening ceremony. He will set out the government’s plans in a speech before parliament.

3. Royal Approval – when a law is passed through Parliament, it must be formally approved by the King to become law. The last time the Royal Assent was denied was in 1708.
