Sportsman of the year
Dominik Szoboszlai and Mária Érdi are the athletes of the year. The national soccer team once once more won the traditional team sports competition.
King Football won at the “Sportsman of the Year” gala on Monday evening, which was organized by the TV channel M4 Sport in the State Opera building in Budapest. The captain of the national soccer team, Dominik Szoboszlai, national coach Marco Rossi and the national team received the most votes in their categories. In the women’s category, world sailing champion Mária Érdi won. In addition, the epee fencers and in the para-athletes category Péter Pál Kiss (canoeing) and Luca Ekler (athletics) and the men’s doubles in table tennis won.
The pre-selection for “Sportsman of the Year” was carried out by fans in an online vote, who were able to choose their favorite from ten candidates in each category. The final selection was then made by an expert jury with 471 personalities from the sporting world.
The Cuban world record holder in the high jump, Javier Sotomayor, and the Italian soccer world champion Fabio Cannavaro, among others, took part in the gala on Monday evening.
