The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that “the Kingdom of Bahrain has decided to resume diplomatic representation at the level of ambassadors with Lebanon, in order to strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples and mutual respect, and in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the League of Arab States, and the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.”
For his part, Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the decision of the Kingdom of Bahrain, reiterating the message of thanks he sent yesterday at the Jeddah summit to “brotherly countries, especially members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, for providing job opportunities for the Lebanese on their lands, and within their private and public institutions,” wishing “a speedy return to all the brothers.” Arabs to Lebanon.
The diplomatic crisis between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon began against the backdrop of statements made by the Minister of Information at the time, George Qirdahi, recorded before he assumed his duties and broadcast afterwards, in which he said that the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen were “defending themselves” in the face of “external aggression” from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
