KKE for Anna Michel Asimakopoulou: We will request the immediate convening of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Parliament | Politics: News, News and Current Affairs – 2024-03-19 19:32:58

“The ND government and the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior are heavily exposed to the leakage of the personal data of voters abroad” reports the KKE on the case of Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou.

The KKE emphasizes that “their responsibilities cannot be hidden either by the “withdrawal” of Mrs. Asimakopoulou from the ND’s European ballot paper, nor by the removal of some official agents and executives of the ND. And the excuses that the information was leaked during the caretaker government – just to keep Mrs. Kerameos and by extension the government itself – challenge the people’s intelligence”/

“The questions are relentless and they are not going to avoid them

-First, how is it possible that personal data was leaked in May 2023 to be used 10 months later in the run-up to the European elections?

-Secondly, what are the conditions for the protection of voters’ personal data, when they are so easily leaked to specific parties?

-Thirdly, how is it possible to “exonerate” the current leadership of the Ministry of the Interior, when the complaints concern both the platform of the national elections and that of the postal vote? Furthermore, is it established that the postal vote notification message and Mrs. Asimakopoulou’s promotional message were sent a short time apart, which points to some sort of coordination?

-Fourth, how is it possible that all this is happening without the knowledge, if not the encouragement, of the leadership of the Ministry of Interior? In any case there is a huge – at least political – responsibility. This responsibility is made even greater, because from the publication of the complaints of the electors – whose data was used – to the resignations, there were persistent and unacceptable statements of misdirection and expediency that point to a conscious and deliberate attempt to cover up responsibilities.

-Fifth, how is it possible for the government to reassure the people about postal voting, when by law the voters’ personal information will now be available not only to government agencies, but also to private companies and even foreign countries, which will handle the postal vote procedures? It should be noted that voters abroad do not even have the alternative of attending polling stations in person, since such stations are not provided for abroad.”

The KKE continues by saying that “these are issues related to the protection of the inviolability of the elections which the KKE had raised from the first moment, based also on the negative international experience, when the ND government brought the bill for postal voting, initially having the support from SYRIZA and PASOK”.

“Ms. Kerameos must answer these and many more questions. That is why the KKE, along with the rest of the investigation, intends to request the immediate convening of the Institutions and Transparency Committee of the Parliament, in order to explain the inexplicable” he concludes.
