Kogler: “This is poison dwarfing by party leaders”

On Saturday, 290 delegates were invited to the federal congress in Graz. The EU list for the election on June 9th is to be decided there. The goal is to keep the three mandates in the EU Parliament so far, Green Party leader Werner Kogler confirmed on Thursday.

The green EU leading candidate Lena Schilling was the best choice, enthused Kogler. “It mobilizes within the Greens, but also externally.” The feedback about her candidacy was “sensational”. With her, the Greens could be offensive even in difficult times, he praised the 23-year-old career changer.

The organic farmer Thomas Waitz is running for second place. He is co-leader of the European Greens and has been in the EU Parliament since the last term. Kogler called him a “big name in the green movement.”

The Upper Austrian state parliament member Ines Vukajlovic and the Viennese Katrin Fallmann are competing for third place. The 62-year-old President of the American Football Association Michael Eschlböck is also running for one of the following places on the list.

Two key proposals for a strong and climate-friendly Europe are to be presented at the Federal Congress.

Warning about “Putin brothers”

Yesterday Kogler warned about the right-wing threats to European unification. In Austria, the “Putin brothers” of the FPÖ are caught in the “opposition bench – government bench – dock” cycle. Kogler described SP boss Andreas Babler’s finding that Herbert Kickl not only didn’t like people but also himself as a very good description given the FP chairman’s “grinding, poisonous behavior”. “This is a poison dwarfing of party leaders,” he said about Kickl’s appearances. Kogler also criticized the fact that Kickl did not engage in discussions. “In reality, this is a people’s chancellor who is running away from the people.”

The FPÖ immediately countered. FP General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz accused the two governing parties of “Kickl phobia”. Kogler has moved too far away from realpolitik. His only focus was to be fixated on supposed “right-wing radicals,” said Schnedlitz.
