South Korea’s under-17 men’s national team lost to Japan in the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup final and took second place in the tournament.
In the final of the tournament held at Pathum Thani Stadium in Thailand on the 2nd (Korean time), Korea lost 0-3 to Japan.
The Korean national team, led by head coach Byeon Seong-hwan, struggled after Ko Jong-hyeon was sent off in the 44th minute for accumulated warnings. Japan scored the first goal in extra time in the first half. A free kick from the left side of the box was scored by Gaku Nawata.
Japan’s attack continued in the second half. In the 21st minute of the second half, Gaku, who was rushing to the goal, scored a shot from inside the box. After allowing Japan’s Yutaka to score a goal in extra time in the second half, Korea was unable to overcome its inferiority and handed the championship cup to Japan.
