“The political responsibility for the situation in the Greek railways for the huge gaps and deficiencies in the safety systems is fully borne by this state and all the governments of the last thirty years” he underlined.

He also recalled that “the workers and their unions in the OSE constantly warned of the possibility of a fatal incident”, while the KKE also submitted questions to the Parliament.

“Political responsibilities also entail specific criminal responsibilities especially for the relevant ministers and other government officials in the last 15 years at least,” he said, noting “all those who by their actions or omissions undermined the safety of the railways”.

“Specifically, there are clear criminal responsibilities of the competent Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport for the period 2009-2023” said D. Koutsoubas, he explained the specific criminal responsibilities and mentioned the ministers “K. Karamanlis, H. Spirtzi, M. Chrysochoidis, K. Hatzidakis, M. Voridis, G. Ragousis and D. Reppa”.

That is why the position of the KKE for the repeal of the relevant provisions is timeless, so that the ministers can be tried like all the citizens”, said D. Koutsoumbas.

He noted that the KKE will “exhaust all possibilities for the criminal responsibilities to be assigned” and characterized that it is a particularly critical issue for the KKE to reveal the truth and prevent such a crime from happening again.

“The KKE will continue to give all its strength so that the attempts to cover up the crime of Tempe will not be successful”, underlined D. Koutsoubas and emphasized: “We will not leave you in the lurch! The crime will not be statute-barred, nor will it be forgotten.”

As he noted, when the KKE Parliamentary Group submitted the proposal for the establishment of the Inquiry, “it had no illusions about its limits, as it knew what had happened in the past, despite the big words about abundant light, etc. It was also known what the correlation is, as well as the unacceptable fact that the absolute majority of the first party, which it secures with the seat bonus, is also transferred to the Investigative and Pre-Investigative Committees”.

D. The head of the KE of the KKE also referred to those who “contested the initiative of the KKE, mainly PASOK, but also SYRIZA, while some parties did not even submit a conclusion. It made it clear that the crime would have been buried without the Inquiry and how the ruling parties have serious responsibilities for the incident, they want to cover up their responsibilities.”
