KSRTC pay crisis; Raju said the government was not responsible and the management should decide

Transport Minister Antony Raju has said that the government is not responsible for the KSRTC salary crisis. The government promised to pay the salary on the 10th on the assurance that there would be no strike. The unions went on strike in defiance of that promise. He said it was up to the unions and management to decide what to do next.

He said that the salary would be paid on the 10th on the condition that the employees would not go on strike. The workers went on strike without believing the assurance given by the government. Therefore, it lost its relevance when the employees went on strike. He said the government was no longer responsible for the salary crisis as the unions did not trust the government’s word.

The government points out that it has done all it can to help. Earlier, a grant of Rs 30 crore was given. The government says the management is looking into the matter. The government is now arguing that it will not be able to pay salaries with a one-day strike. The government had promised to pay the salaries on the 10th in a meeting held on the 6th. But in violation of this, the unions went on strike. Only the CITU stayed away from the strike. However, the CITU itself came out against the management as the employees were still not paid on the 10th. They did not strike on the assurance that they would be paid on the 10th. The CIT also said that employees should not be intimidated by raising some threatening voices.
