Kultur Hof will be completely renovated from 2025

In order to remain a contemporary cultural local provider, the Kultur Hof in Linz’s Ludlgasse needs a significant modernization step. Those responsible have been in agreement on this for a long time.

Now this is to be carried out according to the plans of the young Salzburg architects Christine Ausserlechner (AUCH architektur) and Carina Rieder-Hillinger (Frauwerk Architektur): their project won the invited architectural competition. A feasibility study was previously carried out in 2020.

It is a first step that will visibly modernize the cultural center in the house behind the tobacco factory, which has existed for 35 years, over a two-year construction period starting in 2025. A new event hall, a significantly improved infrastructure for visitors and artists, renewed building technology and energy efficiency (district heating, photovoltaic system) are planned.

The farm pub remains open

Michael Rosenmayr, chairman of the Kultur Hof, was pleased in an OÖN interview yesterday that “in 2027 we will be able to open a new cultural facility that will enable a new quality of our work.” And they are happy that the state has taken over the management of the project as the owner. The building, built in the 19th century, belongs to LIG (Landes-Immobilien GmbH).

Only the cultural event area is affected by the renovation. The Hof pub, which is also located in the building, will remain open in full operation during the renovation phase, said Wolfgang Pfeiffer, managing director of the Kultur Hof, when asked by OÖN. The same applies to the courses and workshops that the farm offers and which are particularly popular with children – keyword holiday programs.

The cultural program will not take a break during the renovation phase. “We will maintain the offer, but we will have to move to alternative accommodation,” says Pfeiffer. Where this will be has not yet been decided. The architects are now in detailed planning. Their requirement is the state’s framework decision, according to which the project may cost a maximum of four million euros.

Successful niche provider

If everything goes according to plan, the renovation will begin in 2025. A two-story structure will be positioned around the existing inner courtyard in such a way that it complements the existing building in a “simple way”. In front of it, a glazed foyer area (single-story) will be created, through which visitors will then be led into the adjoining event room.

The Kultur Hof wants to remain a successful niche provider, but needs an event hall that can accommodate around 160 people. That’s almost twice as many as before.
By the way: The winning project and the other twelve submitted projects are on display in the Architecture Forum (afo) until March 22nd.
