“Kuwait National Assembly Elections: Authorities Crack Down on Vote Buying”

Kuwait City: As the National Assembly elections are near, the authorities have taken strict measures against influencing voters and buying votes. The police arrested ten people in the case of buying votes for the candidate. The accused were under police surveillance following a tip-off. According to the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, cash, e-payment receipts, voter information and identity cards of voters who are ready to sell their votes have been seized from the arrested accused.

The accused were handed over to the public prosecution. Officials have requested those who have information about vote buying to contact the home ministry’s hotline (97272672). Giving cash and gifts in lieu of votes is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 5,000 dinars. The National Assembly elections in the country are on June 6. Those who have submitted the form have an opportunity to withdraw till 30th of this month.
