Kuwait’s Labor Shortage: African Countries to Provide Solution Amidst Growing Dependency Concerns

Kuwait City: Kuwait is preparing to bring laborers from African countries following the acute shortage of domestic workers in Kuwait. Kuwait has started talks with three African countries namely Sierra Leone, Benin and Nigeria.

Labor is brought in from African countries as part of maintaining the population ratio. Once the necessary studies are completed, representatives from these countries will visit Kuwait to sign final agreements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Authority of Manpower, officials said.

At present, the majority of workers are from countries like India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. The crisis escalated when the Philippines banned sending domestic workers to Kuwait. Kuwait is preparing to end its reliance on the Philippines for recruitment. The authorities have clarified that legal action will be taken once morest the sponsors of the domestic workers who have violated the law.
