The province of Kwilu has just taken a crucial step in the program against poliomyelitis by reaching the figure of 1,186,933 children vaccinated in less than a week. This remarkable achievement was made possible thanks to an intensive vaccination campaign carried out over a period of five days, started on July 28 by the provincial authority.

The initial goal of the campaign was to vaccinate 1,175,050 children, but the results exceeded all expectations. The doctor coordinating the expanded program of vaccination, Dr. Steve Matoma, confirmed that this figure represents 101% of the target population, which testifies to the scale and effectiveness of the operation.

Dr. Steve Matoma explained that this exceptional overrun is partly explained by the care of the displaced people of Kwamouth, who have found refuge here and there in the province of Kwilu. These displaced persons also benefited from the vaccination campaign, thus contributing to the achievement of this performance.

The second phase of poliomyelitis vaccination is already in preparation, and it is scheduled for next September. This essential step will consolidate the progress made and protect even more children against this dreaded disease.

This exemplary success is the fruit of a collective mobilization and testifies to the determination of the province of Kwilu to create a healthy and protected environment for its children. However, vigilance is still required to guarantee every child, without exception.
