– 5×2 places for Copi / Thibaud Croisy –
The Homosexual or the difficulty of expressing oneself
Sunday September 10, 2023, at 8.30 p.m., Saint-Gervais Theater, Geneva
Written just fifty years ago, The Homosexual or the difficulty of expressing oneself is not, strictly speaking, a play about the “homosexual condition,” or even perhaps about homosexuality. She is more interested in what is inexpressible in any body, any identity, and highlights the difficulty, even the inability of language to say exactly what we are. To honor the crossbreeding of Copi’s dramaturgy, Thibaud Croisy has brought together a trio of flamboyant performers, with different stories and backgrounds: Frédéric Leidgens in the role of Madre, a castrating mother to make the Andalusians of Lorca pale; Emmanuelle Lafon in that of Garbo, a piano teacher with unconventional methods; and Helena de Laurens to embody Irina, the singular and perverse being who tries to escape all categories and perhaps language itself.
But then, who will win this awful game? Who will kill whom? And what will remain at the end of this night when the demons of the body wake up? The snow ? The silence of the steppes? The memory of a fundamental and lost marginality, impossible to preserve and say? You will find out when you come to see this barbaric and melancholy comedy, halfway between a boosted Feydeau and a bullfight on the ice floe.
– 5×2 places for Issam Bou Khaled & Sarmad Louis – Smoke of Amber
Tuesday September 12, 2023, at 9 p.m., Pitoëff Theater, Geneva
For the actors, playwrights and directors Issam Bou Khaled and Sarmad Louis, a play is a political position and a means of expressing oneself freely, which they demonstrate masterfully with their company in Rihet el Anbara play written in response to the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. In order to raise funds for the victims of the explosion, on stage, a host, famous actress and social activist, invites various people to testify via a Zoom meeting: a businessman and his socialite wife, a political activist, a Filipino maid, a firefighter and a Syrian worker.
In its stage version, the “online virtual meeting” mixes with live theater, and the real and hard stories on the lips of those who lived them mix with the dramatized stories of those who interpret them… testimonies engage debates where the true and the false intersect and become entangled. Who are the victims ? the guilty ? are we all sincere?
– 5×2 places pour Lucinda Chua
Saturday September 16, 2023, at 8.30 p.m., Théâtre Les Salons, Geneva
With his album Yian Released in early 2023, Londoner Lucinda Chua takes us into her deeply introspective universe, the condensed culmination of creative work spanning many years. As an accomplished cellist, she gives a special place in her music to the strings which reinforce the muted keyboard notes to create an atmosphere conducive to arousing emotions. We quickly lose ourselves in the music of Lucinda Chua, to let ourselves go in dreamy contemplation, carried away by her voice with a timbre that is both fragile and deep. Far away from the sounds, notes intersect, evocative echoes of other possibilities enlarging the space. There is something in the delicacy and sweetness of the songs of this singer-songwriter that evokes the magnetism of other Londoners, those of Zero 7, as well as the calmness that one feels as sunrise approaches. sun when everything becomes possible again.
