LA Mayor Safe After Man Breaks into Her Official Residence

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police arrested a suspect following a person invaded Mayor Karen Bass’s residence early Sunday, authorities said.

Bass and his family were unharmed following the suspect entered the Getty House, the official residence of the Los Angeles mayor’s office located on Irving Boulevard.

“Around 6:40 this morning, an individual broke a window to enter the Getty House, while there were people inside,” the Los Angeles Police Department reported in a statement posted on social media, adding that the Police responded and detained the suspect without further incident.

“Mayor Bass and her family were unharmed and are safe. “The mayor thanks the Los Angeles Police Department for responding and arresting the suspect,” her office said in a statement.

Police did not immediately release the name or any other details regarding the suspect and said the investigation is ongoing.

Bass was a Democratic state legislator from 2011 until she was elected mayor in 2022. She is the first woman and second Black person to hold the office.
