It was one of the big excitement topics at the beginning of the NFL offseason: Lamar Jackson officially requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens in early March.
For a long time, nothing was known about the background to this demand. Only now, more than a week after the star quarterback had extended to the Ravens, did the 26-year-old reveal his motives.
Jackson: “Just got the ball rolling”
He wanted to restart negotiations with the Ravens, who were then in a dead end, he told the Ravens podcast “The Lounge”.
The demand was part of his negotiation tactics. “I asked for a trade, but it wasn’t anything serious,” Jackson said on the podcast. “I just got the ball rolling. It’s part of the business. But I’m happy. It’s in the past.”
He had already been asked about his trade demand at the official press conference on the occasion of his new monster deal. At that time, however, he had avoided a real answer.
“Today we’re going to leave it at the future,” Jackson had said. “I don’t worry about what happened in the past.”
Jackson extended his contract with the Ravens by five years on April 27. The new deal brings him up to $260 million in total. So he will get an average of up to $ 52 million a year – more than any other NFL professional.
