Lando Norris is believed to be the 3rd highest paid driver in McLaren F1’s new contract.
McLaren F1 announced on Wednesday that it had extended its contract with Lando Norris to 2/9 until 2025.It is said that the contract raised him to 3rd place in the annual salary after Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Rand Norris said that money “always helps” when promising drivers weigh their next move up and down the pit lane, but “my happiness is more important than anything else. That’s the most important thing,” he added.
The annual salary leaked in F1 is often misplaced, but Rand Norris hinted that he had “a little chat” with the rest of the McLaren team.
“Nothing has been done,” Rand Norris insisted, hinting at the possibility of a vacancy for the top team in the coming season.
“Of course, other drivers have the opportunity to go to Red Bull or Mercedes.I may have had such an opportunity as well.”
“But the fact that I chose to stay at McLaren is a good thing about it and a strong message.”
McLaren F1 seems willing to pay the maximum to ensure that Lando Norris is transferred to another team when experience begins to accumulate.
“The beauty of this new agreement is that both sides have no way out,” said Andreas Seidl, McLaren F1 team president.
“That’s the important message we wanted to convey to the team.”
Rand Norris admits that McLaren F1 is working hard to win the championship in the coming years and that it needs to wait patiently.
“We know it (the process) is not quick,” said Rand Norris.
“Sometimes we need to improve to ensure we can win the race and fight for the championship.”
“But I know it’s going on, I’m sure I can achieve it.”
