LAPD Takes Action Against Ghost Guns – NBC Los Angeles

The use of phantom weapons to commit crimes in Los Angeles County continues to grow dramatically.

The Los Angeles Police Department tries a new way to find and arrest those who make them.

They are weapons that do not have a serial number, it is impossible to know where it was manufactured and to whom and where they are sold.

What is certain is that its criminal use has skyrocketed in the Los Angeles gang.

“In 2020 we confiscated 813 of these weapons, this year there are already more than 150, an increase of 85% in just two years,” says Michel Moore, Chief of the LAPD.

According to Moore, these guns are purchased by people who have criminal records and cannot legally obtain a gun.

This year, officers have exchanged fire with 9 individuals carrying bogus weapons.

Those weapons are used to kill people and cause harm in the community.

The authorities have targeted not only those who carry them, but also those who manufacture or assemble them, offering rewards.
