After the major fire in Alpnach OW at the end of March, a person reported to the police who could have accidentally caused the fire. The investigation supports this explanation of the cause of the fire, as the Obwalden cantonal police announced on Tuesday.
At the fire on Monday evening March 28th in the center of Alpnach a house with two attached buildings burned down completely. Five people, including two firefighters, were slightly injured. 190 firefighters were deployed.
The fire is believed to have been caused negligently by a third party. At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the police did not provide any further information for tactical reasons. However, the person was not a passer-by. It is also not related to the neighboring parquet factory.
Investigations continue
The cantonal police in Obwalden, in cooperation with the Forensic Institute (FOR) in Zurich and under the direction of the Obwalden public prosecutor, conducted investigations into the cause of the fire. The investigators came to the conclusion that misconduct by employees of the parquet factory or a technical defect as the cause of the fire can be ruled out with a high degree of probability.
The investigations have not yet been fully completed, the definitive forensic report by FOR Zurich is still pending. The public prosecutor’s office in Obwalden is conducting further investigations. (SDA)
