It is a story as beautiful as it is sad reported by the VRT this Friday. This is that of Maarten and Marlies, two young people from Gooik, in Flemish Brabant. These two lovebirds decided last Tuesday to get married. Nothing exceptional so far, except that the wedding will take place… on Sunday. Indeed, the young couple has five days to prepare everything.
Why go about it in such a short time to organize the party of a lifetime? They both wanted to be surrounded by both their parents for this special day, and unfortunately Marlies’ mum and Maarten’s dad are seriously ill. They are in palliative care. “We have received very bad news, they have little time left, so it’s now or never. Because we would like our parents to still be here”, testified the bride-to-be.
If the young couple had the idea of getting married one day, he had not imagined that it would happen so quickly and happen in such circumstances. But Marlies wants her marriage to Maarten to remain a day of celebration: ‘I’ve already told my mother that it was better to make a positive out of the situation, rather than keep telling yourself how terrible it was’ .
In three days, the future spouses have already gathered a good part of what they need for the wedding, including the bride’s dress and wedding rings. “All our relatives immediately followed us in the adventure […] So I want to thank everyone a thousand times,” concluded Marlies.
