Last Month’s Steam Survey Shows FHD Resolution and 64-bit Windows 10 Aren’t Going Away

Steam’s monthly survey results for May 2023 reveal some interesting facts, although almost all of the changes are below the 1% threshold. The only change above that number is the 1.09% drop in Oculus Quest 2 usage (to 44.05%).

The most popular operating system among Steam users remains Windows 10 64-bit, with 60.51%, down 0.7% from April. Nearly 52% of the computers tested use no less than 16 GB of memory. The most popular main screen resolution remains 1080p/FHD, with a generous share of 64.33% (0.19% less than in April). The prevailing resolution for multi-monitor setups is 3840 X 1080 pixels.

If we look at the long-term numbers posted by Steam for the period December 2021 – May 2023, we see a loss of 0.38% for AMD in the processor section. Thanks to her, Intel now has a 67.52% share. In the field of video cards, Nvidia reigns supreme with 76.37%, while AMD and Intel must share the rest of the cake. The leading chipmaker now holds 14.83% of the market, while its competitor has to settle for 8.59%.

As can easily be seen from these new Steam numbers, change needs time in the hardware and software worlds. Time to Windows 11 and the increasingly popular 4K resolution will arrive, but it may take at least a year for them to take hold.
