While petrol became slightly more expensive in the first three months, diesel has become noticeably cheaper since the beginning of the year. According to ADAC market observations, a liter of Super E10 cost a monthly average of 1.763 euros in March. In February the price was 1.754 euros, in January it was 1.745 euros. Drivers had to pay an average of EUR 1.715 for diesel last month, compared to EUR 1.754 in February and EUR 1.833 per liter in January. Compared to March 2022, the most expensive tank month ever, petrol was 30.6 cents cheaper and diesel 42.5 cents cheaper.

The most expensive day for petrol was March 7th. At that time, the daily average price for a liter of Super E10 was 1.781 euros. The cheapest was Super E10 on March 21 at 1.735 euros. Diesel drivers had to pay the most on March 6: A liter of diesel cost 1.757 euros. Diesel was the cheapest on March 31 at 1.684 euros. According to the ADAC, there is still room for price reductions for both types of fuel. While Super E10 was only a good three cents cheaper than diesel at the beginning of the month, this range widened to just under ten cents at the end of the month. The tax benefit for diesel is still around 20 cents.

According to the ADAC, it remains to be seen which direction fuel prices will take in April. For example, the reduction in oil production announced at the weekend could lead to a rise in the price of crude oil and, as a result, to higher prices at the pumps. (awm)
