Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Amanda Hernandez told the AP that a request Gonzales made earlier this year to donate a kidney was denied, although inmates are allowed to donate organs. According to the news agency, Hernández did not give more details about the refusal, but the inmate’s lawyers affirm that she rejected him because his execution date was pending.
