Latvia: Cooler air and wet snow possible early November, says eng.lsm.lv

Latvians have enjoyed an unseasonably mild autumn so far, but the meteorological runway for this warmth is rapidly shortening. Up to Oct. 25, the average temperature for the month settled at 9.8°C—standing 2.6 degrees warmer than the climatic norm, according to eng.lsm.lv. That anomaly places the current month on track to provisionally become the second or third warmest October recorded in the country since 1924.

A Warm Interlude Before the Wind and Rain Arrive

For the remainder of the week, maximum afternoon temperatures will range from +7°C to +13°C, while nighttime lows mostly hover between +3°C and +8°C, though coastal areas could reach up to +10°C, eng.lsm.lv reported. The eastern portion of the country will see sharper drops, with temperatures dipping to 0°C to 2°C in isolated spots during Wednesday and early Thursday morning alongside light, drizzly rain.

That gentle pattern will not hold through the weekend, however. A widespread band of precipitation will move across Latvia from the southwest during Friday night, bringing rain nationwide. Overnight temperatures on Friday are projected to fall between +7°C and +11°C, dipping to +4°C to +6°C in eastern clearing skies, before daytime highs rebound to +9°C to +13°C.

Weekend Plans Face Disruption From Gusts and Fog

Saturday brings variable cloud cover with early morning fog reducing visibility across eastern areas, while Sunday afternoon introduces a fresh band of western precipitation that will linger in eastern districts into Monday evening and prolong wet conditions in the west until early Tuesday. Light to moderate southerly winds will gradually strengthen by Sunday night, packing gusts of 15 to 19 meters per second across western and central regions.

While temperatures will remain relatively stable through the weekend, early next week will introduce a sharper chill, with overnight lows dipping toward +3°C in select areas.

The Early November Shift Toward Wet Snow

Looking further ahead, the current warmth faces a definitive break. Forecasts indicate that cooler air could sweep into Latvia during the first week of November, specifically around Nov. 3–5, bringing the possibility of wet snow alongside the rain, eng.lsm.lv noted.
