Layton Woman Drowns in Hawaii – NBC Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – A Layton woman drowned in Hawaii’s Kona District, authorities said.

On Monday, February 27, 2023, at approximately 11:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at the Honaunau Boat Ramp in South Kona.

Bystanders on the beach pulled the swimmer out of the ocean and began CPR until Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. However, attempts to resuscitate the victim at the scene were unsuccessful.

Police identified the 75-year-old woman as Carol Mugleston, of Layton, Utah. Paramedics transported Mugleston to Kona Community Hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead at 1:13 p.m.

The police launched a forensic investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
