Date 11 of the League Cup will begin with two matches

Today the eleventh day of the League Cup begins with two momentous matches for both groups. In the first round, Independiente fell 1-0 against Deportivo Riestra and could not remain the sole leader of Zone A (at least until the other leaders play). Meanwhile, Newell’s is betting on a winner against Platense: if it wins, Leprosy will reach Godoy Cruz at the top of Zone B.

DEPORTIVO RIESTRA 1-0 INDEPENDENT

Riestra defeated Independiente 1-0 at the Guillermo Laza Stadium on matchday 11 of the League Cup in a result that prevented the defeated team from taking off at the top of Zone A.

Malevo had its best first half hour since its promotion to the top category. A header against the crossbar and a block by Rodrigo Rey were warning calls not appreciated by Rojo, and the homeowner’s third was the charm at 16 minutes.

An overflow by Guillermo Pereira ended in a sharp cross against the area from the left side to an attentive Pedro Ramírez to anticipate Adrián Spörle and concede a header from Rey’s point-blank range. The confusion forced Carlos Tevez to get involved in the formation with the additions of Alex Luna and Rubén Martínez at 32 ‘to dismantle the line of five defenders, although he closed the initial stage without clear arrivals at the goal defended by Ignacio Arce. He only recorded a header from Gabriel Ávalos that Felipe Aguilar failed to deflect.

Already in the complement, those from Avellaneda were pressured to seek the result with the arrival of dribbling players such as Santiago Toloza and Javier Ruiz added to the entry of Ignacio Maestro Puch. However, the equation was not changed. Towards the end, Ávalos had the clearest chance when he was one-on-one against Arce, but the ball was on top of him and the goalkeeper saved in time.

With this unexpected fall, Independiente continues to share the top of Zone A along with River Plate, Talleres, Argentinos and Vélez with 18 units. The goal difference leaves them in fourth place, the last qualifying ticket to the quarterfinals of the League Cup, but they will end the weekend out of that privileged position because Fortín (fifth) and Instituto (17) divide points this Saturday in Liniers.

After the break due to FIFA date, Argentine football will return on the last weekend of March with different matches, such as Rojo against Atlético Tucumán at home and Malevo will face Gimnasia en el Bosque.

NEWELL’S-PLATENSE:

Without their best player, Éver Banega (sent off for a direct red card against Godoy Cruz), Newell’s tries to regain victory to reach Godoy Cruz at the top of their group. In front of him is Platense, who remains in an expectant position and has completely modified his gait since the arrival of the Favio Orsi-Sergio Gómez duo.

Mauricio Larriera has the job of replacing number 10, who received two sanction dates and will only be able to return against Boca in Rosario on Date 13. In addition, the Uruguayan coach resolved the return to ownership of Ángelo Martino (he purged a suspension date for accumulation of yellows) and has Armando Méndez affected, with a muscular overload.

El Calamar intends to continue collecting points to establish itself in the highest category and that objective began to be met in recent days. The brand new coaching staff obtained two draws against Racing and San Lorenzo at home and a resounding victory against Estudiantes in La Plata to settle in the standings.
