Leaving Germany: Exploring Emigration Trends and Challenges for Germans and Foreigners

Around 1.2 million people emigrated from Germany last year, including 935,516 foreigners and 268,167 Germans. Because only 184,753 Germans returned to their homeland, the so-called migration balance is negative. So more Germans are leaving the Federal Republic in the long run than are coming back.
