Lebanon thwarts ISIS suicide attacks

Today, Wednesday, Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced the arrest of a terrorist group that recruits young men to carry out suicide attacks using explosive belts and rocket-propelled grenades.

Bassam Mawlawi pointed out that “the Lebanese Internal Security Forces are the heroes of this operation, and I congratulate the heroes of the security forces because they were able to arrest a terrorist group that recruits young people to carry out bombings on Lebanese soil.”

The Internal Security Forces indicated that the operation came “in accordance with the directives of the General Director of the Security Forces to conduct a continuous and permanent follow-up to the activity of terrorist organizations in Lebanon, by the Information Division, especially those affiliated with ISIS.”

She pointed out that “the Information Division is recruiting a human source within the communication groups working for ISIS, and at the beginning of the year 2021, and the source has been linked to one of the organization’s security cadres in Syria.”

Earlier, the Lebanese security announced the arrest of a wanted person for the crime of belonging to the terrorist organization “ISIS”, in northern Lebanon.

The General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces said: “Information was available from the Halba Judicial Detachment in the Judicial Police Unit, regarding the presence of one of the most dangerous people smugglers across the border, who is required to be judged according to a summary judgment for the crime of belonging to the terrorist organization ISIS, and an arrest warrant.” For a felony, in a house in the town of Al-Amayer in Wadi Khaled, called: “M. p.” (born in 1989, Lebanese national).
