Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James announced a forthcoming partnership with prediction markets platform Polymarket on Saturday, joining a growing wave of professional athletes securing commercial deals within the burgeoning event-contract sector.
The four-time NBA champion and four-time league MVP shared a 14-second video on his X account revealing the collaboration. According to The Athletic, the clip features James stepping out of an elevator after selecting the floor labeled “sports,” while other destination buttons inside the car display options for politics, crypto, economy, culture, weather, esports, and technology. The post included the caption: “Welcome to Polymarket HQ. Coming soon. 👀 In partnership with @Polymarket.”
Polymarket responded publicly on X by writing, “Thanks for stopping by our HQ,” accompanied by a goat emoji. A Polymarket spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic on Saturday that the arrangement is an “exclusive partnership” and indicated that further details will be released.
“With football season around the corner, we look forward to tapping into James’ love for the sport and exploring other ways to bring Polymarket to wider audiences,” the Polymarket spokesperson said, as reported by The Athletic.
The exact nature of James’ role within the company has not yet been publicly detailed. However, the agreement makes the future Hall of Famer the first NBA athlete to sign an individual commercial partnership with Polymarket, which bills itself as the world’s largest prediction market. The platform allows users to trade on the outcomes of future events, including wagers on whether James will share the court with his son, Bronny, during the 2026–27 NBA season.
Growing Athlete Influx Into Prediction Markets
James’ entry into prediction markets follows a sequence of similar high-profile alignments between elite athletes and competing platforms over the past several months, predominantly involving Polymarket rival Kalshi.

Earlier this year, professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau reached a deal to become Kalshi’s first athlete endorser, according to Front Office Sports reporting cited by The Athletic. In February, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo became the first NBA player to directly invest in Kalshi alongside an official partnership announcement. That trend continued in June when Lionel Messi and the Argentina national soccer team announced a partnership with Kalshi.
Other major sports figures have also engaged with Polymarket promotional efforts. Tennis star Maria Sharapova previously posted a video on social media showing herself trading on the Polymarket application during a live tennis match.
Polymarket’s communications team indicated that additional specifics regarding the scope and activation of James’ partnership will be made public.
