LeBron James has officially launched a dedicated YouTube golf channel titled “LeBron James,” moving his expanding interest in the sport into a creator-led media format focused on travel, friendship, and long-form video.
The channel debuted on August 15 with a 96-minute feature-length episode documenting a summer golf trip to Scotland alongside members of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team. According to coverage from The New York Times, the premiere video features a three-on-three golf scramble and a reunion trip celebrating the 10th anniversary of Cleveland’s historic 2016 NBA championship, where the team rallied from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors to deliver the city its first major sports title in over five decades.
## Behind the 2016 Cavaliers Reunion
The premiere episode leans heavily into personal history and camaraderie rather than strict competitive stakes. Alongside James, the Scotland trip features prominent 2016 Cavaliers teammates including J.R. Smith, Kevin Love, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson, and Channing Frye.
According to the channel’s official description cited by The New York Times, the format is designed around personal interaction, local food, and shared memories: “Follow along as LeBron brings his friends and fans along for the journey as golf takes him to some of the world’s greatest courses. Come for the game, stay for the great local food, wine, and a whole lot of laughs along the way.”
The long-form video structure provides a candid window into the players’ lives away from the basketball court. The project includes discussions regarding post-career transitions and the complexities of leaving professional sports.
## Building a Direct Creator Format
James’s entry into YouTube represents a strategic shift toward creator-controlled media. While professional athletes frequently engage with traditional media outlets, documentaries, or standard interview formats, a dedicated YouTube channel allows players to dictate content length, release schedules, guest lists, and overarching tone without the filters of league broadcasts.
Unlike casual social media clips, the project is structured as a recurring monthly series. This episodic rollout gives viewers regular access to James’s off-court pursuits. The initiative also arrives as James continues his active professional basketball career, having recently agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers.
## Expanding Golf Horizons
James’s public involvement with golf has accelerated significantly over the past year. He began discussing his ambitions for the sport publicly in August 2025, and previously played a round at GreatHorse—a private club in Hampden, Massachusetts—prior to the 2008 Team USA Olympic team’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
In a July discussion with NBA agent and Boardroom co-founder Rich Kleiman, James outlined broader philanthropic goals tied to the sport. “My goal is to open doors for kids that look like me growing up in the inner city, to be able to go to country clubs at 7, 8, 9 years old and be able to go out and caddy or be able to go out and rent clubs and be able to be coached and play the game of golf,” James stated.
With new episodes slated for monthly release, the channel establishes a sustainable secondary platform that will continue to document James’s travels, friendships, and evolving relationship with the game.
