PAP / Artur Reszko / In the photo: Lech Poznań players Jagiellonia Białystok is the revelation of this season of PKO Ekstraklasa. Before this match, the team from Podlasie was in first place in the table. In Białystok, they do not hide their bold dreams of the Polish championship. However, the road to this is long, and the answer to the question whether Jaga is ready for such success was supposed to be provided by Saturday’s match against Lech Poznań.

The visitors started the match better. In the 18th minute, Filip Marchwiński gave the Poznań team the lead. Kristoffer Velde passed the ball to the Pole, and he scored on target with the first ball from outside the penalty area! Zlatan Alomerović failed to defend this shot.

Less than a quarter of an hour had passed and it was already 2-0 for Lech. Jose Naranjo handballed the ball in his own penalty area and the referee gave a penalty. Filip Szymczak approached the ball and converted the penalty very confidently. Bartłomiej Wdowik, who was looking for his tenth goal this season, wanted to respond immediately, but his shot was managed – not without problems – by Bartosz Mrozek.

The second half started with two VAR interventions for possible penalties. First, Afimico Pululu fell in the visitors’ penalty area, and then Dominik Marczuk. In both cases, the arbitrators found no violation of the rules. And when it seemed that Jadze was entitled to a penalty, the VAR analysis revealed an offside position.

The hosts tried to make up for the losses, but Kolejorz’s defense performed well. The local team found a way to defend their opponents in the 82nd minute. In the confusion in front of Lech’s goal, Jarosław Kubicki crossed to Kristoffer Hansen, who beat Mrozek. This goal gave the team from Białystok a boost.

The locals were unable to achieve a draw. Lech successfully defended itself against the offensive pressure of its opponents. Thus, Jagiellonia suffered its first home defeat this season.
