In recent days, a video accusing Leclerc of cheating his customers when weighing fruit and vegetables has been making the rounds online. The brand denies any fraud.
The video is viral and has been seen by more than 2 million Internet users on social networks. We see a Nice customer of a Leclerc store filming herself weighing her onions.
She then removes the plastic tray placed on the store’s scales and notices that the price of these increases from 2 euros to 1.47 euros. This customer doesn’t need much more to denounce “a scam” on the part of Leclerc to charge more for her fruits and vegetables.

Asked by 20 minutesthe brand denied any scam, claiming that this tray was used to “facilitate cleaning” of the scales.
What the law says
The weight of the latter is “adjusted accordingly so as not to harm customers: with the tray, the weight is 0 kg, without it the empty weight is negative”.
As our colleagues point out, traders are required to provide well-adjusted scales, so that the consumer pays the right price and the weight of the packaging is not counted.
They face up to 2 years in prison and a fine of 300,000 euros in the event of deception.
