The defense of the former head of the FECI in Quetzaltenango proposed to annul the sentence of four commutable years in prison issued against her.
This Tuesday, May 9, the Second Chamber of the Court of Appeals will dictate the resolution of the special appeal that the legal defense of the former head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI), of Quetzaltenango, Virginia Laparra, raised to annul the sentence of four commutable years in prison issued against him.
The Eighth Court handed down said sentence for the crime of abuse of authority on a continuous basis, on December 16, 2022, this for having filed various administrative complaints against the then judge Lesther Castellanos.
The hearing for the presentation of the arguments was held on April 25 and, as established by law, this day was set to issue the corresponding resolution.

Despite the fact that the aforementioned sentence is commutable, Virginia Laparra has currently been deprived of her liberty for more than 14 months, due to the fact that in a second trial against her, she was ordered preventive detention.
On January 4 of this year, the former prosecutor of the Public Ministry was linked to criminal proceedings and on April 21 she was sent to trial for the possible commission of the crime of revealing confidential or reserved information, this fact would also be related to the former judge Castellanos.
The First Criminal Sentencing Court of Quetzaltenango will be in charge of the oral and public debate that is scheduled for May 22.
