Leo Castro was born in Cauca, but grew up in the city of Pereira, there he could not finish school, since he had to help his family financially. In the city of Perla de Otun he worked as a laborer, delivery man and as a garbage collector in the city cleaning company. After working there for a while, They asked him to play in the company team, where he was the top scorer and the best player in various tournaments.

In an effort to fulfill his dream of playing professional soccer, Castro tried out for several teams from out of town, but they all rejected him because of his weight and being very skinny. However, thanks to a manager from Deportivo Pereira, he managed to carry out tests at the club, surprising several of the coaches who were there.
As soon as he presented the evidence, he was hired immediately. In 2014-2015 he became the top scorer in the second division of Colombian soccer., causing Independiente Medellín to sign him for the next season. During his stay in Medellín he fulfilled his dream of being a Colombian soccer champion, but injuries took him away from the playing fields.
