Less rain than predicted: rubber boots are only needed temporarily
Will the open-air weather be better than expected? (Only) nine millimeters of rain fell in the St.Gallen region on Friday night. “That’s less than predicted. And there is not that much to come,” says Daniel Gerstgrasser, meteorologist from Meteo Switzerland. The front tore up a bit and it rained a lot, especially in western Switzerland. In Geneva, for example, 40 millimeters of rain fell. To the chagrin of the water-hungry nature, the east has been sparsely irrigated.

For the open-air visitors, however, this is good news: “The rubber boots will only be needed temporarily,” says the meteorologist. On Friday it will rain another 5 to a maximum of 15 millimeters. However, it cannot be ruled out that a strong thunderstorm could also fall, most likely on Friday afternoon. “We are in a classic south-west location, which is always a bit unpredictable for forecasts.”
The meteorologist from Meteo Schweiz does not see much rain coming to the Sittertobel in the next few days either: On Saturday morning there will probably be quiet drumming on the tent roof and on Sunday night a weak disturbance could also ensure a cozy rain sound in the tent and thus a good night’s sleep care for.
In addition, the sky tends to be overcast almost every three days, so heat stroke and sunburn are not an issue. Whether this amount of precipitation will be enough for a lot of mud in the ravine depends very much on whether a thunderstorm breaks out. The dry ground can absorb small amounts of rain, but if it rains a lot at once, the ground will quickly become soft. (chs)
