VAMOS has filed a lawsuit against the newspaper Diario El Salvador, because it mentioned in a column titled “The People Won” that the party is a political ally of the gangs, which they assert is a false accusation.
The note in question states: «The political allies of the gangs (ARENA and VAMOS) managed to maintain a presence in the Legislative Assembly. “That demands that the fight against gangs be maintained.”
According to the statement shared by VAMOS, it states that they demanded that Diario El Salvador publish “a clarification written by us as a party” and after not having obtained results, they decided to proceed legally so that a judge could force the media to do so. They also mention that they are “testing the system.”
On different occasions, the VAMOS deputy, Claudia Ortiz, has advocated for the rights of members of terrorist structures captured under the Exception Regime, in addition to criticizing this security measure, despite the support of Salvadorans as a result of its effectiveness.
