Grand Saconnex, November 18
Liars, this is the label that the authorities of Grand-Saconnex have decided to affix to the citizens who defend the referendum against the influence of the current Nations-Grand-Saconnex tram project. From there to think that some of our elected officials have violated their duty of reserve, from there to think that we are confronted with an unhealthy and undemocratic authoritarian drift, it is a step that I hasten to cross.
How can these guarantors of the real truth, who denigrate those who are not of the same opinion as them, can they, without blushing, affirm that the referendaries defend their own interests, when more than 900 citizens domiciled in different parts of the commune supported the process? How can they, with such aplomb, proclaim that the referendum committee refuses public debate, when the one that the authorities had arranged for him before he even gave his consent looked more like a trap than a trap? a real exchange respectful of each other’s positions?
How can they, without covering themselves with shame, let it be understood that the felling of the 62 trees of the Chapeau-du-Curé is unimportant because it concerns only two “major” specimens, and that among the 571 trees located between the Nations and Place Carantec, 42% are in poor or bad physiological condition, as if it were those and those only that we would blame? With the planned project, 340 trees will be cut, including 160 in the town of Grand-Saconnex. Simply unacceptable.
How can they, so shamelessly, affirm that all axes combined, the tram will reduce traffic in the municipality by 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles/day without mentioning that the Tunnel des Nations has something to do with it? , without indicating that the closure of the Route de Ferney will increase traffic by 13% on the Terroux-Sarasin axis and by 24% on the Chemin des Corbilettes according to a study commissioned by the State of Geneva?
When elected officials attack citizens who democratically contest a bad decision by calling them liars, it is because they are afraid of transparency, afraid of losing their power, afraid of democracy. Basically, they have already lost sight of the role for which they were elected: to respect and defend the interests of all the citizens for whom they are responsible.
