Leverkusen star Demirbay: “The referee gets on my nerves”

Kerem Demirbay has already received ten yellow cards this season. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is anything but happy with that – especially since he doesn’t see the blame as his own.

His tenth yellow card this season and four warnings from referees Felix Brych in one scene, Bayer Leverkusen’s Kerem Demirbay was still upset after the game. “I find that very, very sad, I’m honest, the referee gets on my nerves,” he told ARD-“sports show” after the game in the Bundesliga that he was with Leverkusen won 2-0 (0-0) on Sunday.

Flood of cards after pack formation

Brych had shown four players a yellow card after a pack formed as a result of a foul by Wolfsburg’s Aster Vranckx on Piero Hincapie – including Demirbay. But he was not aware of any guilt and, according to his own statement, had only tried to calm the players involved: “Then Maxi Arnold comes and says: “Kerem, fine, everything is easy, you did well” and then the referee comes and gives me my fifth yellow card.”

The annoyed 28-year-old added with a look at Brych: “I hope that he won’t whistle for us so often in the future.”

Demirbay was the first player in this Bundesliga season to reach the mark of ten warnings and had to sit out a game for the second time because of a yellow card suspension.
