Lidl scam: watch out for this email that claims to save you €500 worth of shopping

We receive many emails every day claiming to help us win gifts, money, trips… Some are contests but others are purely scams. The Lidl group has been paying the price for a few days with an email that people would receive promising to save anyone who plays no less than €500 in races. A very attractive sum that motivates those who receive the email to play. Do not let yourself be drawn into these scams and learn to recognize a fraudulent email.

Lidl, a brand regularly attacked by fraudsters

Lidl is a large hard discount group and has a very large community. It therefore goes hand in hand that attempts at fraud are increasing by some to reach as many people as possible and to enrich themselves illegally.

In recent days, you too may have received an email from Lidl inviting you to play a contest game to win a shopping cart worth 500€. This email absolutely does not come from the hard discount brand Lidl but from fraudsters trying to bribe you with money. Here’s how they did it:

  • You receive an email from the Lidl brand
  • We invite you to click on a button to participate in a contest
  • You are automatically selected, without having played
  • You are redirected to a page asking you for personal information such as your credit card number

How to avoid scams?

It is not easy to know if the email is a scam or if the game is real. However, a few clues should put you on the alert, such as theExpeditor’s address. In the case of the Lidl scam, the sender is: “[email protected]” which does not correspond at all to the Lidl brand. This information alone should put you on alert.

If you are asked for personal informations such as a credit card number, identity card, bank account: flee! It is with this kind of information that scammers illegally take money from your bank accounts.
In the case of the Lidl scam, you are selected for a contest without playing, which is not logical and in the process you are asked for this kind of personal information.

In case of doubt, the easiest way is still tocall the issuing body, in this specific case: Lidl. They will tell you if they are responsible for sending the mail or if they are not. In the second case you will have confirmation that it is a scam.

Be careful not to fall into this kind of trap, otherwise you will not only not win the game but also lose money.
Thanks to the tips above, you will be more vigilant and avoid these kinds of pitfalls. We also have everyday money-saving tips with: Lidl fuel discount to spend less at the pump as well as thefood emergency aid.
