Liga: Spotify will be the main sponsor of FC Barcelona for the next four seasons

The Spotify audio streaming platform will be the new main sponsor of FC Barcelona for the next four seasons, and will put its name next to that of the legendary Camp Nou stadium, Barça announced Tuesday evening in a press release. “The company’s name will appear on the front of the men’s and women’s first team football match and training shirts. For the first time, the stadium will also have a partner and will now be called the Spotify Camp Nou“, said the Catalan club.

Barça did not reveal the figures for the operation with the Swedish firm, but according to several Catalan specialist media, the contract amounts to around 70 million euros per season over four years, which would make it the contract the highest level of sponsorship on the football planet, equal to the partnership between Real Madrid and the airline Emirates. The agreement will however have to be submitted to the vote of the representatives of the socios (supporters-shareholders of the club) during an extraordinary general meeting which will be organized on April 3 next at a distance, for the first time in the history of the club.

When the stadium redesign is complete, Spotify will be very present

In detail, Spotify branding will appear on the front of the men’s and women’s first team shirts from July for four seasons, and on both teams’ training shirts for three seasons. The current sponsor of the men’s first team, Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, sees his contract with the club expire on June 30, as does that of the women’s first team, DIY tool company Stanley.

Rakuten took over from Qatar Airways in 2017, and his four-year deal with the Catalan club was extended for a year in 2020. He expected Barca to earn €55m a year in revenue, plus €1.5m in euros if the Catalans were to win La Liga, or 5 million euros if they won the Champions League.

The Camp Nou sponsorship will be extended after the end of the Espai Barça project, which notably provides for the renovation of the largest stadium in Europe (99,000 seats) and its surroundings. “When the stadium overhaul is complete, Spotify will be very present, on facilities that will be crucial for the future of the club“, said the club in its press release. In February, leaders of the Scandinavian company had attended the victory of the Blaugranas against Atlético Madrid (4-2) at Camp Nou.
