Lightning strikes the roof of the Eaux-Vives school

Lightning struck this Sunday afternoon on the roof of the Eaux-Vives primary school, in the street of the same name. “The noise was impressive and the impact too, testifies a reader. Tiles were broken and ended up on the street.” The Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) confirms the substantial damage caused by the lightning strike around 3:45 p.m. “Four square meters of tiles were taken away,” said Lieutenant Nicolas Millot, the communications officer.

The firefighters intervened with fourteen men and two vehicles. Despite the many pieces of tile debris thrown onto the road, no one was injured. Lightning did not cause any fires. The school is expected to open normally on Tuesday. At 8:30 p.m., the sappers members of the SIS climbing group were still on site to install a temporary tarpaulin on the damaged roof.
