Lille – Lens: LOSC wins the derby and inflicts Racing its first defeat of the season

Double blow for the Mastiffs at the end of the tenth day of Ligue 1. Not content with having won the derby against Lens, LOSC put an end to the impressive series of invincibility of their neighbor in the league, which had lasted for six month. The Mastiffs are far from having achieved the match of the century, and relied on a penalty converted by Jonathan David just before the break to win by the smallest of margins (1-0). They can also thank Lucas Chevalier, goalkeeper who made a name for himself in this poster with two decisive saves. He notably released a penalty shot by Florian Sotoca.

The Sang et Or presented themselves on the lawn of Lille in the costume of favorites, strong in their form of the moment. This 2022/2023 season will remember that they were stopped in their tracks by united Mastiffs, impeccable in defense and opportunistic in attack. However, everything could have turned in their favor when Florian Sotoca appeared in front of Lucas Chevalier to take a penalty conceded by José Fonte. Except that the strike was a little too soft to deceive a goalkeeper who started on the right side (16th). There was inevitably a little success, but it takes some in a fiercely contested derby, constantly stopped by whistles following fouls.

Six months without losing in L1: Lens, a crazy series to the test of the derby

Knight, hero of Lille

Lens will certainly be blamed for his impeccable first period in the state of mind, marked by the desire to press high so as not to let go of the opponent. An approach which, unfortunately for him, was not followed by a killer instinct in the final 30 yards. Conversely, Lille did not spoil. In this case, Jonathan David placed an unstoppable strike on a penalty obtained by Benjamin André on receipt of a corner (1-0, 44th). The timing was also ideal for a LOSC team that suffered for long minutes, but held on.

We still expected a better reaction from the Lensois when they returned from the locker room. It was rather the opposite that happened: galvanized by their goal and carried by a twirling Adam Ounas, the Lille residents did not go far from making the break. Indeed, Brice Samba extended the suspense by being decisive in certain hot situations (47th, 72nd).

The most beautiful save of the meeting is nevertheless to be credited to Chevalier, who dived, opposite hand, on a shot towards the skylight signed Alexis Claude-Maurice (70th). Proof that LOSC has not mastered much in this part. Whatever, a derby is won and to hell with the face. In the standings, it is above all a big setback for Lens, which could come back to two points behind PSG, when Lille remains seven lengths from the podium.
