It’s a friendly game. But Lionel Messi (34) is not available for friendly gestures on Sunday evening. On the contrary.
When the Argentine national team beat Estonia 5-0 in Pamplona, Spain, Messi scored all five goals in the “Albiceleste” himself.
Five-pack premiere in the national team
Already in the 8th minute Messi opened the scoring against the Estonians from the penalty spot. The other goals follow in the 45th, 47th, 71st and 76th minute.
Messi has never scored five goals in one game for Argentina. During his time at Barcelona, however, he put together a five-pack in the Champions League. In the 2011/12 season, Messi almost single-handedly defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 in the premier class.
Argentina in top form
Only last Wednesday, Messi was celebrated and praised by his teammates on the soccer field. In the so-called Finalissima (European champions against South American champions), Argentina swept over Italy and won 3-0.
At the time, Messi was not on the top scorers list. The captain has now made up for that impressively – much to the chagrin of the Estonians. (cat)
