Lions: a historic thaw and disgraceful gestures

The Trois-Rivières Lions suffered the most severe defeat in their young history, Sunday at the Colisée Vidéotron, losing 10 to 3 against the Newfoundland Growlers.

The two teams crossed swords for the third time in 72 hours, giving rise to scuffles throughout the meeting. In total, 84 penalty minutes were awarded to the Lions, against 45 for the Growlers.

At the end of the game, Éric Bélanger’s men expressed their frustration by multiplying the unsightly gestures towards their rivals. Already short of players, the Trois-Rivières organization could have to deal with several suspensions.

After a difficult start to the game, Tristan Bérubé gave up his net to Carmine-Anthony Pagliarulo. The latter did little better than his colleague, allocating four successes in eight attempts. Bélanger thus canceled his initial decision, leaving Bérubé to finish the game.

The Lions have never been in the game, conceding four goals in the first twenty. The Growlers did it again in the middle period, beating opposing goaltenders five times.

Todd Skirving (three goals), Jeremy McKenna (two goals, two assists) and Derian Plouffe (two goals, one assist) shone for the Newfoundland team.

Anthony Nellis, William Leblanc and Hayden Shaw managed to deceive the vigilance of Keith Petruzzelli. The Growlers goalie saved 21 pucks for the win.

The Lions will have the chance to redeem themselves in front of their fans on Wednesday when they host the Adirondack Thunder.
