Live ticker Singapore GP: Max Verstappen without a chance? / Formula 1

World Champion Max Verstappen has to start the Singapore Grand Prix from 8th place on the grid. In our live ticker you can follow whether the Dutchman wins his second title.

Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen was no longer able to attack at the end of the Singapore qualifying: he was on course for pole position in the first two sections of the track, then the Dutchman received the instruction from the Red Bull Racing command center to take his foot off the accelerator – otherwise he might have run out of fuel or the law enforcement officers would have found too little fuel in the tank after the final practice session, which would have meant being pushed back to the end of the field.

The starting position for the 31-times GP winner is now very difficult. Of course, the 25-year-old won from 7th place on the grid in Monza, from 10th place in Hungary and even from 14th place in Belgium. But on the street circuit in Singapore it is much more difficult to get past an opponent.

What do the statistics say? Eight out of twelve Singapore GPs have been won from pole. Victory has been taken twice from P3 (oddly never from P2), plus there was a win from P5, and the scandalous 2008 GP was won by Fernando Alonso from P15 – but only because his Renault stablemate Nelson Piquet died had received instructions to drive into the wall so that Alonso could be washed to the top. It was one of the biggest scandals in Formula 1 history.

Verstappen remains calm: “Of course it would be nice to become world champion in Singapore, but I don’t want to think too much about the world title.”

If Max wins in Singapore and gets the extra point for the fastest race lap, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) can only finish eighth at most, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez at most fourth. If Verstappen wins without the fastest race lap, Leclerc can be a maximum of ninth, Pérez a maximum of fourth and not drive the fastest race lap.

You can find out how far Max can advance in Singapore from 1.20 p.m. in our popular live ticker. We have summarized the most important dates of the television stations for you.
