Liverpool is preparing a €55m (£46m) January transfer move for Barcelona loanee Ronald Araujo to solidify the right-back position following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure, amid pressing midfield depth concerns.
Fantasy & Market Impact
- Midfield Strain: Ongoing injuries to Dominik Szoboszlai and tactical shifts forcing Ryan Gravenberch to cover at fullback highlight an urgent need for winter reinforcements.
- Investment Strategy: The €55m valuation signals January spending to address squad needs.
Midfield Strain and Squad Depth Realities
Andoni Iraola faces a severe personnel pinch in the center of the pitch. Dominik Szoboszlai remains sidelined, and Ryan Gravenberch has been forced to deputize out of position at right-back. The current setup exposes glaring vulnerabilities in squad rotation.

Trey Nyoni offers a more dynamic alternative, yet relying heavily on academy prospects risks overexposing youth during a grueling campaign.
Alexis Mac Allister continues to perform at an elite level, driving the team’s transition play and expected goals (xG) generation. But the Argentine cannot carry the burden alone. Without additional reinforcements in the winter window, exhaustion and tactical rigidity threaten to derail the squad’s trajectory.
Permanent Pursuit of Ronald Araujo
While the center of the pitch demands urgent attention, the defensive flank has found stability in Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan arrived on loan from Barcelona and quickly established himself as a fan favourite with commanding defensive duels and progressive ball-carrying.
According to reports from Juan Jesus, Liverpool are ready to open formal negotiations with the Catalan giants in January to trigger their option to buy. The proposed €55m (£46m) fee reflects the club’s determination to end the prolonged search for a natural successor on the right side of the defense.
| Player | Status | Target Valuation | Primary Role |

With negotiations slated for the upcoming winter window, the board’s willingness to commit significant capital highlights a clear directive: shore up the defensive foundation while addressing the glaring engine-room depth before the fixture congestion peaks.
