Guitarist Mark Sheehan of Irish rock band The Script has died aged 46 after a short illness. Sheehan founded the group (“Hall of Fame”, “Breakeven”) together with frontman Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power in 2001.

The musician died in hospital, the band announced on Twitter on Friday. Together with the family, she asked all fans to “maintain privacy at this tragic time”.

Most recently, the guitarist missed the band’s US tour. Singer Danny O’Donoghue told the Irish newspaper “Sunday World” at the time that the 46-year-old was taking a break to spend time with his family. Mark Sheehan was married to Reena Sheehan and they had three children together.
