Lotte de Beer: “We were really afraid in September” – culture

The house was considered dusty for many years. Since the Dutchwoman Lotte de Beer took over as director, a fresh wind has been blowing through the Vienna Volksoper. For the debut in September, the German entertainer Harald Schmidt appeared in an operetta, on Sunday Brecht’s “Threepenny Opera” premiered with a more than unusual cast. In her carefree manner, Lotte de Beer not only upsets the Volksoper, the entire Viennese opera landscape is currently in a kind of optimistic mood. STANDARD cultural director Stephan Hilpold talks to the new artistic director on the rehearsal stage of the house on the Wiener Gurtel regarding how sustainable this can be.
