The “housewife’s basket” could cost a little less across the Jura. In a few days, the prices of a large number of food products should indeed drop on the shelves. At least that’s what Jean-Philippe André, president of the French National Association of Food Industries (Ania), promised. this Thursday, on France Info.
According to the manager, 80% of the organization’s member companies agree to make a promotional effort over a three-month period.
Up to –10% on 300 products
The operation should begin in July and last three months. “Between 200 and 300” national brand references are concerned, he specifies. They could see their prices drop “between 7.5% and 10%”.
Remember that, under pressure from the government, the agri-food industry has agreed to resume negotiations with large retailers to curb inflation.

No return to pre-2019 prices
On the other hand, Jean-Philippe André considers the current rise in food prices in France to be irreversible. “It is fair and honest to say that we will not return, in 2024 or 2025, to the levels before 2019”, he warns.
Bad news that Michel-Edouard Leclerc, CEO of the large-scale retailer E. Leclerc, had already announced during an interview with in April at RMC.
Higher inflation in France than in Switzerland
According to the latest INSEE economic note, the French equivalent of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO), headline inflation reached 5.1% over one year in April. That of food product prices increased over the same period by 14.9%.
For comparison, in Switzerland, according to FSO figures, general inflation reached 2.6% over one year in April. Inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages is stronger, at 5.4% over the same period as well.
