Climate glue storms the KKL stage – the orchestra just keeps playing
Climate activists disrupted a concert at the Lucerne Festival in the KKL on Friday evening. Some of the audience reacted angrily.
Climate activists from Renovate Switzerland interrupted a performance of Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony by the Bavarian State Orchestra in the KKL on Friday evening around 9:35 p.m. on the occasion of the Lucerne Festival. Two activists stormed onto the stage in the middle of the concert and stuck themselves to the conductor’s stand, as Renovate Switzerland writes on X (formerly Twitter).
The two climate stickers, which are attached to T-shirts with the inscription “act now!” were wearing, caused a brief interruption. However, conductor Vladimir Jurowski did not allow himself to be disturbed and continued to conduct. As the concert continued, a glue worker shouted into the hall: “We have climate change, we have to act now!”. The audience reacted angrily. Concertgoers shouted at the climate stickers to get out. An activist appeared undeterred and shouted into the hall: “Heat wave kills – floods: it is now time.”

According to Renovate Switzerland, the climate stickers are psychomotorist Selina Lerch (28) and Anthony Zufferey (20), international relations student. According to Renovate Switzerland, there was a deal between conductor Jurowski and the climate adhesives. Renovate Switzerland writes: «After 10 minutes, at the end of the movement, conductor Jurowski spoke to the two activists and then explained to the audience that he would like to give them the floor. He had agreed with the two of them that they would be allowed to explain their concerns and in return the concert could be finished undisturbed afterwards. Conductor Jurowski would have insisted after a few more boos from the audience. Jurowski is quoted by Renovate Switzerland as follows: “If you don’t let them finish, I’ll leave the stage.” Lerch then recalled the climate emergency in short, urgent words and expressed her fear of it. After thanking Jurowski, the two left the stage. The concert was then completed undisturbed.

Boos from the audience
According to the reporter in our newspaper (concert report follows), the conductor reacted very confidently. There were some very strong reactions from the audience – in standard German. When the activists began to speak to the conductor as agreed, there were individual boos from the audience, whereupon the conductor made it clear that everyone should now listen for a moment. The activist’s statement was very general, i.e. unrelated to the Lucerne Festival, and rather boring. The concert then came to an end, the conductor and orchestra received thunderous applause.
Climate activists are always looking for spectacular targets for their sticking activities. At Easter, for example, they blocked access to the Gotthard road tunnel. The tone against the movement is intensifying because the actions continue to attract criticism, even in environmental circles. Numerous politicians are calling for tougher action, and climate activists are increasingly being met with hostility on social networks. The disruption at the Lucerne Festival is the fourth action this summer after “appearances” at the Locarno Film Festival, the Diamond League meeting in Letzigrund in Zurich and the golf tournament in Crans-Montana.
